How to get from Delhi to Chopta?
The best way to reach to Chopta (450 Kms approximately away) from Delhi is via a bus which is easily available from ISBT Kashmere gate & Anand Vihar bus terminals.
Delhi to Rishikesh: Do an overnight journey to Rishikesh; it is 5-6 hours long and you will reach early in the morning. Eat heavy breakfast here so that you do remaining journey easily.
Rishikesh to Rudraprayag: From Rishikesh, hop on a bus going to Rudraprayag which will take other 5-6 hours. Don’t get confused while taking a bus from here as you can take a bus going towards Karanprayag and Joshimath. You have to get down at Rudraprayag.
Rudraprayag to Chopta: After reaching Rudraprayag, shared taxis are available from early morning hour to 5 in the evening (takes around 45 mins to 1 hour). You can get a bus to Chopta also (available only at
the peak season).
Chopta to Tungnath: This 4kms long trek is usually done in 2-3 hours. It is pure bliss to witness wonderful green lush meadows (Bugyals) on the way.
Tungnath to Chandrashila Peak: Chandrashila Peak is around 1.5kms ahead and it usually takes 1 hour to reach there due to the steep climb.
Plan your Trek
From Chopta, start your trek as early as possible to make the best out of the snowcapped mountain ranges of Kumaon and Garhwal and also, come back to Chopta on time. You will find various tea stalls while trekking so, don’t worry about your hunger pangs. Witnessing an impeccable sunrise from the Chandrashila peak is a must and for that; start your trek around 4 am in the morning. You must ensure that you have sufficient gears and clothes on for trekking at such an hour.
